Para un chileno siempre es más fácil concurrir a un evento en otro continente -especialmente Europaque asistir a uno en Perú, Uruguayo Brasil, lo que se debe exclusivamente a las cadenas culturales de raigambre colonialista que nos atan. Circula al respecto una anécdota o \"chiste\" entre algunos compositores sudamericanos, la que dice más o menos así: existen dos maneras de afrontar un evento musical internacional, la del europeo que asiste y llega puntual, y la de los sudamericanos, quienes si llegan a asistir siempre llegan tarde, no asisten o simplemente, no llegan, como los chilenos porque nunca se enteraron. ¿Será porque subestimamos los aportes que pueden ofrecernos otros músicos latinoamericanos? ¿O será porque creemos a ciegas en los músicos europeos? A lo mejor, es nuestra ignorancia la que no nos deja percibir el rico y enorme caudal que poseen nuestros colegas de Latinoamérica, o quizá al no valorar lo que tenemos preferimos buscarlo afuera y no en nuestro interior. El primer contacto que tuve con los Cursos Latinoamericanos de Música Contemporánea, fue a través de una invitación que me cursó el Equipo Organizador en 1985, para asistir a Cerro del Toro, Piriápolis, Uruguay, en el verano de 1986.
