El cuarteto de cuerdas, tal como se entiende a partir de su primer forecimiento en el continente europeo, se desarrolla tardíamente en Guatemala, tanto en calidad de ensamble musical de cámara, como en lo tocante a la música creada para este género. A título de advertencia, se debe tomar la presente investigación en calidad de un trabajo preliminar, susceptible de una considerable ampliación y continuación. Las muestras que se han logrado documentar indican que, seguramente existe un acervo mayor, pendiente aún de investigación, estudio y clasificación.
