Es por lo tanto, el punto de partida de las acciones que propician la formación integral de la personalidad de los educandos. Sin embargo, la aplicación de métodos, técnicas e instrumentos, permitió constatar la existencia de limitaciones en la preparación de los maestros sobre este tema. Ello motivó la aplicación de una estrategia metodológica dirigida a elevar el nivel de preparación de los mismos para la realización efectiva del diagnóstico integral de los escolares. La estrategia metodológica se centra en el sistema de trabajo metodológico que se aplica en la escuela primaria, a partir de sus dos direcciones: trabajo docente-metodológico y científico - metodológico, sus vías y las exigencias teórico-metodológicas elaboradas al efecto para lograr la transformación. La novedad científica de la tesis consiste en una caracterización más amplia de las funciones básicas del maestro, dirigida a la realización efectiva del diagnóstico integral del escolar, de manera que dicho proceso constituya: el primer momento de la función orientadora, al exigir la caracterización psicopedagógica y el pronóstico pedagógico; el centro de la actuación de labor investigativa y de superación del maestro, al demandar la identificación y jerarquización de los problemas del alumno desde la escuela, y en estrecho vínculo con la familia y la comunidad, el análisis crítico de las regularidades durante la aplicación del diagnóstico, la actitud indagadora para explorar la personalidad del alumno, y la constante búsqueda y actualización teórica sobre el tema del diagnóstico del escolar, y finalmente, la brújula de la labor docente-metodológica, al establecerse una estrecha relación entre el diagnóstico y los componentes del proceso que orienta la planificación, ejecución, control y evaluación del proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje. Sin embargo, pensamos que los mismos docentes a los cuales va dirigido este libro probablemente pertenezcan al grupo que difícilmente use ni se sienta a gusto a la hora de usar materiales presentados en la Web. La alfabetización en información se ha convertido en un requisito indispensable para lograr ciudadanos activos. Es crucial que este proceso de aprendizaje comience en etapas tempranas del desarrollo de las personas y continúe durante toda su vida. El propósito de este proyecto de investigación fue averiguar qué habilidades de información poseen los niños uruguayos, ofreciendo así un valioso aporte a una temática no estudiada antes en Uruguay. Un cuestionario fue desarrollado y aplicado a 250 niños que cursaban 6to. año (11-12 años) en 7 escuelas públicas (seleccionadas de modo de representar diversos contextos socioeconómicos) y 3 privadas de Montevideo. El estudio, de carácter descriptivo y exploratorio, se basó en el punto de vista del niño primariamente, pero también se exploran impresiones de maestros y bibliotecarios. Los datos obtenidos revelaron que los niños tienen limitadas habilidades de información y que existen marcadas diferencias entre contextos socioeconómicos. Por otra parte, en las entrevistas a bibliotecarios y docentes, éstos consideraron las habilidades de los niños inferiores a lo que los niños opinaron de sí mismos y vieron como fundamental la necesidad de incentivarlas. Se concluye con una reflexión sobre la necesidad de mejorar estas habilidades y el papel del bibliotecólogo en esta tarea.
