La estructura horizontal de las plantas epífitas varía entre bosques y especies de árboles hospederos, mientras que su distribución vertical está asociada a condiciones microambientales. Sin embargo, la estructura de la comunidad de epífitas al igual que su fenología es desconocida bajo diferentes estadios de sucesión vegetal en bosques tropicales secos. Por lo tanto, se estudió la composición y estructura de epífitas en tres diferentes estadios sucesionales: temprano, intermedio y bosque maduro. En cada parcela de sucesión, se registró la diversidad de epífitas considerando diferentes atributos de la planta hospedera como variables asociadas a la incidencia de epífitas. Se encontró una mayor riqueza de epífitas en estadios de sucesión intermedia y bosque maduro, y mayor abundancia en estadios de bosque maduro principalmente sobre especies arbóreas en ramas secundarias. La similitud de especies de epífitas entre los sitios de sucesión fue del 42%. Se encontraron cinco diferentes patrones de producción de flores a lo largo de dos años.
