Los dato obtenidos en varios ejemplos de este tipo de recursos se comparan conlos términos incluidos en un tesauro especializado de este mismo ámbito.  A través de esta comparación se sistematizan cuáles son las aportaciones del etiquetado libre frente a las herramientas tradicionales.  Los tesauros pueden aprovechar las folksonomías como una fuente de gran calidad para actualizar y ampliar su cobertura terminológica.
