La orquesta sinfónica es un gran instrumento a través del cual se emiten un sinnúmero de discursos musicales, y el director tiene la responsabilidad de hacer que se transmita fielmente el mensaje que el compositor quería hacer llegar a la audiencia, de ahí que las decisiones técnicas que éste indique a la orquesta serán más apropiadas entre más conocimiento haya de la obra, del compositor y su entorno.
